![]() ![]() It is possible to have two companions out at any given time. More than likely, the enemy will ignore them and come straight for you. Don’t turn your back on an enemy thinking your companion will take care of them. But for the most part, they are not very good offensively. Sometimes they can be invaluable by distracting the enemy. They will follow you around as if they were another player fighting with you. When you start a level, you will see your companion’s health bar on the left side of the screen. These are characters that play an important role in the story during particular chapters. As you progress through the story, you will unlock more companions. ![]() The only real significant thing I found regarding the story is the AI companions(reinforcements) that you can recruit to help you in battle. Very stuttery and inconsistent framerates take away from any lucid story Team Ninja is trying to tell. Some of the cutscenes COULD be interesting… but the performance during cutscenes is shockingly bad. Of course, you are the only one who is able to defeat the big baddie that threatens the peaceful existence. ![]() The general concept is pretty straightforward. ![]() All of which can be replayed at any time. After the first few chapters I gave up on really caring about what was happening in the world of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. But regardless if you can hear them or not, most of what they say is pretty worthless. Sometimes the characters speak much too loud… other times you can barley hear what they are saying. Both the quality of the voice over and the actual dialogue itself are poor. I ended up tuning it out of my brain eventually. I couldn’t explain to you a detailed overview of the story because I found the character dialogue very annoying. The story is really bad… more specifically, the voice overs are horrible. This is by far the weakest feature of Wo Long. I just want to touch on the good, and bad, of Wo Long’s storytelling. The story of Wo Long: Fallen Dynastyĭon’t worry, there are no spoilers here. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has many of these features… and it does them relatively well. Souls-like games are intentionally designed to be challenging in this way… and there is typically only one difficulty setting. Finally, the level will end with a massive boss that may take dozens of tries to beat. Throughout the level, there will be checkpoints that save your progress… if you die, you go back to your last checkpoint but you lose any experience points you accumulated. These are very challenging enemies that could easily kill you within a few hits, or even a single hit in some cases. A Souls game normally consists of levels filled with a variety of enemies that must be passed. If you are unaware of what a “Souls-like” game is, allow me to explain. The difference between Wo Long and their other games is the Souls style gameplay. Needless to say, they know how to make a good action fighting game. The game is developed by Team Ninja, the same studio that created games in the Dead or Alive series, Hyrule Warriors, Ninja Gaiden and more. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is an action RPG video game that takes place in China during 184 AD. ![]()
